The shaping sun

By northernlife on 2014.09.16 In Kiruna

6.30 am in Kiruna on September 16th 2014. Sun rises at 6 am now. In a week probably 25 minutes later..

The sun has a major part of my life. It is my inspiration and reason of life. In this area the summers are very light and sunny since the sun does not rise or set, it just stays up in the sky. I get questions how I am able to sleep with all the light, but my simple answer is that my body is used to it. At midsummer we have the longest days (no nights) with sun. At christmas, about December 22nd, the day is the longest night since it has no sun at all. It probably sounds like a black nightmare but it is just the opposite. The light in the sky shift from purple to pink over the fields of snow. Silent days with sparkling snow and pink sky are probably one of the most beautiful days. The light of pink and purple appears during the polar night from beginning of December to beginning of January. I will let you know when it starts!

I had two friends visiting me. They wanted to see the midnight sun and thought it was spectacular. For me the sun has always been there and thus I have not searched for it. When arriving to the lookout place in the middle of midnight we were not alone. The midnight sun seems to attract many viewers.

In January – viewing the sun for the first time for a whole month.
